Authorities in Pakistan have decided to restrict inbound flights to Pakistan from 5 May to 20 May, reported Dawn. The country also announced several restrictions amid renewed virus surge.

The National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC), the main body to handle the Covid-19 crisis, recommend curtailing flights among other measures after a meeting chaired on Thursday.

They also announced a "Stay Home, Stay Safe" strategy from May 8 to May 16, aimed at controlling the movement of people, including during the Eidul Fitr holidays. Inter-city, inter-provincial transport have been banned and private vehicles have been ordered to operate with 50 percent capacity.

During its meeting, the NCOC also reviewed the production and supply of oxygen, granting permission to import 6,000 metric tonnes of oxygen and 5,000 oxygen cylinders to shore up healthcare facilities in the country.

Recent restrictions helped the country to bring down the positivity rate under 10. However, controlling the spread still remains challenging. KP and Punjab provinces are the worst affected in the country.

Hospitals are also reporting bed shortages across major cities, and officials are ramping up medical infrastructure in the country.
