Three more land ports along the India-Bangladesh border will be opened to allow the entry of Bangladesh nationals stranded in India, reported Dhaka Tribune. Currently, three land ports are operational for the same. 

In an inter-ministerial meeting, chaired by Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen, has decided to open land ports in Darshana, Hili, and Sonamasjid. District administrations in these areas have been asked to make arrangements for quarantine facilities. 

The entry will be allowed to Bangladesh nationals through these crossings from 16 May. 

Currently, three land ports- Benapole, Burimari, and Akhaura- are operational to facilitate the entry of stranded Bangladeshis. 

People have been asked to remain in touch with Bangladesh mjssions in India and to follow all guidelines issued by them. 

Bangladesh on 26 April had closed all land ports along the border with India amid the virus surge there. However, trade with India through land ports still continues. 

The flight operations to, and from, India were already canceled.
