Pakistan has said it consistently favoured a ‘meaningful dialogue” with India, but a "conducive" and "enabling" environment was important, Tribune reported.
“We have consistently maintained that there is a need for a ‘meaningful dialogue’ with India and peaceful resolution of all outstanding issues, including the core issue of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.”
“But for any meaningful and result-oriented dialogue to take place, a conducive and enabling environment was of utmost importance,” Foreign Office spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said.
There have been reports of ongoing intelligence level talks between the two countries, but Pakistan has refused to call it back-channel dialogue.
The two neighbours have already fought three wars in 1947, 1965 and 1971 and an undeclared war in 1999 in Kargil, besides engaging in a number of border skirmishes and militant stand-offs.
He said Pakistan had offered Covid-relief support to India as a gesture of solidarity and was ready to immediately provide ventilators, Bi PAP (Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure), digital X ray machines, PPE (personal protective equipment) and related items.
“The offer was made to the Indian side through diplomatic channels and we await the response from the Indian side. We wish the Indian people early relief and recovery," the spokesperson added.
