Twenty-five years ago, then senior diplomat and writer Pavan Varma wrote a much acclaimed ans critical book called “The Great Indian Middle Class” which drew a lot of attention for pointing out, among other things, that the Indian middle class was in need of an ethical renaissance. . A quarter century after the book’s publication,  Mayank Chhaya Reports asked Pavan Varma, now a politician and high-profile cultural observers with several celebrated books to his name, how the middle class has evolved, particularly in terms of its political and ideological preferences.
