Pakistani Nobel laureate and education activist Malala Yousafzai got married in a small ceremony in Birmingham to a senior official of Pakistan's cricket board.

Taking to Twitter, Malala, a global figure, wrote, "Today marks a precious day in my life. Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life. We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families. Please send us your prayers. We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead."  Asser is the general manager (high performance) at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

She has also posted photos from the nikkah ceremony held on Tuesday wherein she is seen alongside her husband Asser and her parents.

According to Geo TV, Malala, on her D-Day, wore a melon-pink outfit adorned with gold embroidery.

Her father, Ziauddin Yousafzai, tweeted, "It is beyond words. Toor Pekai and I are overwhelmed with joy and gratitude. Alhamdulillah."

Yousafzai had survived a Pakistani Taliban assassination attempt when she was 15 years old. She was shot in her head for supporting girls' right to education in Mingora, Swat Valley in northern Pakistan.

She was then shifted to Birmingham and later graduated from Oxford University. Since then, she became a global figure promoting education for girls.

She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 17 for her work and struggle in promoting education for children.(SAM)
