    INDIA - CHINA: BEYOND DISENGAGEMENT

The disengagement process between India and China in eastern Ladakh has since been accomplished. The study examines ‘outstanding issues’ on pullbacks in Gogra, Hot Springs and in Depsang; argues that there is a realisation in  the Indian Army that the threat is from the north, not the west; a view that China has outplayed India in that it  claims huge territory; that India does not have a China-specific strategy; that times ahead will be one of uncertainty and unease; and the economic compulsions and possibility of an India-China thaw.
