UNDP provides COVID-19 protective gear to Sri Lanka Police Officers

Colombo: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) recently supported the National Police Commission (NPC) to provide protective equipment to Police Officers working on Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 Response.

The Sri Lanka Police, comprising of 85,000 Police Officers have been crucial in helping the country keep communities safe during this pandemic. Assisting the Sri Lanka Police, UNDP supported the National Police Commission (NPC) to provide these Officers with protective gear with the aim of safeguarding them in their COVID-19 tasks.


The gear consisted of 10,000 surgical masks, 170,000 powder-free gloves, 600 Safety goggles, 600 Face shields, 2000 Disposable gloves, 2000 Gowns, 2600 Biohazard bags, 550 Non-Contact Infrared Thermometers (NCIT) and 1500 1ltr bottles of Hand Sanitizer.

This initiative is part of UNDP’s long-term support to the NPC and other independent institutions of Sri Lanka.
