Description: Frank Islam talks to Dr. Ali Khan Mahmudabad about the Muslim identity in the South Asian region, its comparison to the Arabian Peninsula and the the cultural differences between North Indian Muslims and Muslims from the rest of South Asia. He lays comparisons between the conversion of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul and the Babri Masjid-Ram Mandir dispute in Ayodhya. Lastly, He talks about a possible organised political exclusion and vilification of Muslims in India and the religious and linguistic reasons that play into the absence of a South Asian identity.

Dr. Ali Khan Mahmudabad is an Assistant Professor of Political Science & History at Ashoka University, India. He has written extensively on South Asian Muslims and Muslim identity.
