An Ode to the River Ganges
Along your banks, O Revered Mother
Along your banks, O Revered Mother
Lie hopes, dreams and wishes of all
Who throng your shores, from times immemorial
Through Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall
Seeking benediction and some relief,
From the endless journey of nights and days,
The ups and downs of an errant mistress
As is Destiny, with its unknown ways,
And like the gentle flow of your waters
They bend and bow and prostrate in prayer,
Looking Eastwards all the time
For the Sun that will rise from the horizon out there,
To then obeisance pay to that mighty One
The Majesty of the deep blue sky,
As its subjects, the moon and the stars
In due deference, quietly fly
For, they too are bedazzled
By the Sun, and the glory of the River.,
Both all- powerful on their own,
Both, Sustainer and Life-giver.
May you flow eternally
And, bless those that your Mercy seek.
