The wrath of the gods
The frenzy that we see around
The trepidation and the terror,
The frenzy that we see around
The trepidation and the terror,
We only need to see ourselves
Reflected in the mirror.
For long has Man with contempt
The world, as it was, destroyed,
With asinine attempts to declare
The heavens, as simply null and void.
Progress equated with filthy lucre
Forgotten the nature of life,
Forgotten his own fragility
Man, embroiled in constant strife.
Nevermore naked was the world
Despite the richness of raiment,
Bedecked in bejewelled glory
Missing is Faith, the sacred ornament.
Gripped by dread is the world today
“Progress” and “Technology”, notwithstanding
And, all because of greed and depredation
That’s left Man bare and, helplessly, standing.
Alas! Man against Man is not all
Nature, too, unsparingly ravaged
And, for these sins of Man and more
Is he now being, insidiously, savaged?
Is it the wrath of the Gods, I wonder
Will we survive or be submerged,
The world, unrelentingly, torn asunder
Will we drown and be the lost herd.
Will we, can we, rein in lust and greed
Or, is our existence endangered,
Will we now our lessons learn
Or, will humanity be exterminated?
