Pakistan said that it recognized "Saudi efforts” and actions taken by the countries’ authorities in relation to the killing of Saudi dissident and Washington Post columnist Jammal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Turkey in 2018. Pakistan also "expressed solidarity” with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Earlier the US Office of the Director of National Intelligence said in its report that Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman had approved an operation in Istanbul, Turkey to capture or kill Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office Spokesperson Zahid Chaudhari said in a statement, "We have taken note of the public release of the US administration’s declassified intelligence report, containing its 'assessment' on the killing of Jamal Khashoggi. "
He further added, "The Saudi government has further underlined that it took all possible measures within its legal system to ensure that the individuals responsible were properly investigated, convicted and sentenced and that justice was served,"
Following the disclosure, the US authorities also barred entry by 76 Saudis under a new policy called the “Khashoggi Ban”.
The Saudi officials at its Turkey consulate lured him in lieu of granting some necessary documents where operatives from the Saudi intelligence allegedly dismembered his body in 2018.
The Saudi government first denied any role in his killing but later accepted it and called the whole operation “rogue”. However, they denied Saudi Crown MBS having played any role in it.
