Pakistan Army said on Monday that they will offer tea and snacks to opposition leaders if they come to Rawalpindi for their protest march, Dawn reported. Pakistan opposition parties have been jointly protesting under the banner of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), seeking the resignation of the country’s Prime Minister Imran Khan.

"I don't see a reason for [them] coming to Pindi. And if at all they want to come, we will offer them refreshments (chai pani) and look after them. What more can I say?" Major general Babar Iftikhar, the director-general of the army’s ISPR, was quoted as saying by Dawn.

The comment came in the backdrop of a statement by PDM leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman who had hinted earlier at the possibility of holding a protest march in Rawalpindi. Pakistan Army has its general headquarters in Rawalpindi.

PDM leader Maulana Farlur said earlier that if the Imran Khan government doesn’t resign by 31 January, they would announce the long march to Islamabad. "It will also decide whether the long march should be staged towards Islamabad or to Rawalpindi," he added.

The PDM leaders accuse the country’s powerful army of supporting Prime Minister Imran Khan. In a veiled reference to the Pakistan Army, Maulana Fazlur said, their long march might turn against the backer of the present government.
