Nepal has imposed a six-year ban on two Indian nationals who had faked the Everest ascent in collusion with their guides and a Nepali liaison officer. The duo has also produced morphed photos pf standing at the top of Mount Everest.

According to a report in The Kathmandu Post, the Everest Climbing Certificates of Narendra Singh Yadav and Seema Rani Goswami were also revoked by Nepal’s Tourism Minister.

Four other Indian nationals and a UAE national are also under investigation for faking the ascent using photoshopped photos and documents. A few years back, Indian authorities requested Nepal to verify all these claims as India’s youth and welfare ministry had started receiving many claims of Everest ascent.

During the investigation, authorities in Nepal also found too many loopholes in the process which enables these fake claims. Most of the liaison officers, appointed by the Nepal government to issue certificates from the base camp, don’t go to the camp.

Now authorities in Nepal have decided to attach GPS devices to liaison officers to track their location while posting.
