Maldivian is interested in recruiting specialized professionals and doctors from Bangladesh while seeking to establish direct shipping line between Chattogram and Male to enhance bilateral trade. Visiting Maldivian Vice President Vice President Faisal Naseem expressed his eagerness when Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen called on him at Hotel InterContinental in Dhaka, Bangladeshi media said. Naseem arrived in Dhaka on Monday on a three-day official visit, as bilateral cooperation grows among South Asian nations with regional cooperation a non-starter.
During the meeting, Momen assured the Maldivian vice president of extending necessary assistance in providing medical education, training and skill development in various areas in the Maldives. He stated that Bangladeshi expatriate workers in the Maldives were diligently contributing to the host economy. He also agreed to work on establishing a direct shipping line between the two countries for increasing the volume of bilateral trade.
Both the leaders emphasized the importance of further deepening the bilateral relations between the two South Asian nations. Momen said that Bangladesh attaches high importance to the Maldives which is rooted in shared religion, culture and values.
He said the state visit of Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih last March contributed to advancing Bangladesh-Maldives bilateral relations to a great extent.
He thanked the Maldives government for the gift of 2,00,000 Covid-19 vaccines for the people of Bangladesh.(SAM)
