Late Pakistani ghazal legend Mehdi Hassan’s son has appealed for financial assistance for his kidney ailment saying the huge cost of the treatment was beyond his reach, Daily Times reported. Asif Mehdi, a singer himself, has to undergo dialysis thrice a month.
Mehdi said he had visited the Sindh Governor House several times seeking financial assistance, but the aid provided by the government proved insufficient
His wife Rubi Asif told mediapersons they had sold out all their assets, but that was far from enough to meet the treatment cost of around 5 million Pakistani rupee.
Mehdi has appealed to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to send him abroad for treatment.
Arif Mehdi, another son of Mehdi Hassan, passed away a few days back under grave financial distress, and sources said his family even struggled to meet the funeral expenses.
Mehdi Hassan, one of the greatest and most influential figures in the history of ghazal singing, passed away in Karachi in 2012.
