Indiaspora launches DiasporaNEXT Social Entrepreneurs List: Highlights young Indian-origin social entrepreneurs creating social impact and change
With more than 32 million people of Indian origin globally, according to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Indians are the largest diaspora population in the world.
Indiaspora, a nonprofit community of global Indian leaders from diverse backgrounds and professions, has released their DiasporaNEXT Social Entrepreneurs List recognizing young Indian-origin entrepreneurs from across the globe, who are creating social impact and change through their companies.
This list features 61 young social entrepreneurs who are founders of 49 companies making impactful contributions to society. The list aims to celebrate young entrepreneurs whose companies are addressing issues such as access to healthcare, quality education, water and sanitation, arts and culture, food insecurity, and employability.
“The honorees on this list are a true inspiration. Their work today is paving the road for the future generation of social entrepreneurs” said Indiaspora’s Executive Director, Sanjeev Joshipura. “These leaders are playing an active role in providing sustainable solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges.”
"Some of the greatest challenges we face are driven by lack of access and lack of opportunity," said list honoree Alwar Pillai, co-founder and CEO of Fable. “I started Fable with Abid [Virani] to change that, and ensure that everyone, regardless of ability, can participate in, contribute to, and help shape society. Indiaspora's support of Social Entrepreneurs and solutions like Fable demonstrates their commitment to solving the most impactful problems and a shared vision of an equitable digital future."
With more than 32 million people of Indian origin globally, according to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Indians are the largest diaspora population in the world. DiasporaNEXT’s Social Entrepreneurs List includes Indian-origin entrepreneurs from India and from geographies with significant diaspora migration, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, New Zealand and Australia.
“I am truly grateful for being one of the people featured on this audacious list.” said list honoree Anto Philip, co-founder and CEO of Under25. “It is moments like these that make the journey all the more meaningful"
Indiaspora’s DiasporaNEXT initiative aims to build a community, a network, for young entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs of Indian origin to help bring their ideas and aspirations to center stage.
The DiasporaNEXT Social Entrepreneurs List is a follow-up to Indiaspora’s existing List projects, which include a Business Leaders List, Government Leaders List, and Philanthropy Leaders List so far, all of which have gotten great coverage in the media and garnered much interest among the Indian community, the global diaspora and more.
The Indiaspora Lists (lists.indiaspora.org) highlight the advances of the Indian diaspora in areas such as government, business, philanthropy and now social entrepreneurship.
Indiaspora’s inaugural Business Leaders List (July 2020), highlights the Indian diaspora who are leading the largest global companies and the Government Leaders List (February 2021) highlights over 200 government leaders of Indian heritage from 15 countries around the globe.
Indiaspora (www.indiaspora.org) is a nonprofit community of powerful global Indian leaders from diverse backgrounds and professions who are committed to inspiring the diaspora to be a force for good by providing a platform to collaborate, engage, and catalyze social change.
“We were so grateful to have such inspiring social entrepreneurs speak at our launch session for the Social Entrepreneurs List. The stories they told and the pieces of advice they gave were extremely moving and motivating for our audience, particularly those who are interested in becoming social entrepreneurs themselves, or in supporting social enterprises,” said Raka Mukherjee, Senior Coordinator of Marketing and Communications at Indiaspora.
