India and China on 18 December, resumed diplomatic talks under the framework of Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) on border affairs. In the virtual meeting, both sides agreed to continue work towards ensuring complete disengagement of troops in all friction points along the LAC in eastern at the “earliest”. The study examines China’s military and political objectives; need for a diplomatic offensive to counter China’s plans; gaps between India’s strategic policy intent at the top and the executive arm at the ground level as amplified by the Wistron fiasco and the Telecommunication En-gineering Centre (TEC) incident; an argument that stalemate on border ‘is a defeat for a superior power’ etc
