INDIA - PAKISTAN: BETWEEN THE LINES OF THE CEASEFIRE UNDERSTANDING
The ceasefire could result in a larger peace process or could become another border agreement that was more in breach than compliance. The study examines the significance of the ceasefire; that both countries have chosen rationality over self-deception; whether the purpose is more than the maintenance of peace along the border’; an understandable cynicism given Pakistan’s track record; possibilities of the peace process sustaining; that India is testing ‘many traditional elements of Pakistan’s Kashmir strategy’; and finally the onus is on BJP to resist Pakistan bashing temptation.
