With the last three coronavirus positive sailors in the Welisara Complex cluster recovered, Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) confirmed that the navy coronavirus cluster has been completely controlled.

Sri Lanka Navy Media Spokesman Captain Indika De Silva today (21) said the last three naval personnel who were found infected with COVID-19 at the Welisara Naval Base have recovered and left the hospital. Accordingly, all 906 COVID-19 infected Navy personnel have recovered.

However, the recently recovered sailors would be subjected to another 14- days self-quarantine, adhering to healthcare guidelines, the Spokesman said.

The Welisara Naval Complex, which houses nearly 4000 naval personnel and their families, was locked down on April 24 after 30 naval personnel found to have been contracted COVID-19 infection.

The Naval Base resumed its normal operations on June 22 following the healthcare guidelines issued by the health authorities.

Welisara Navy Hospital was also re-opened for outdoor patients on July 10 after 77-days of closure and now continuing its duties since the normalcy has restored.
