The government is not reviewing the constitutional provisions on the term of the President, justice minister Ali Sabry has said.

“We are not seeking anything more than five-year term because that is why the President is elected for,” Sabry, a president’s counsel, told News1st’s Newsline programme.

He said the two-term limit for the President to contest for the top post is also not being reviewed for an amendment.

The justice minister observed that there is no legal impediment for the President to hold a ministerial portfolio under the current constitution.

“…he (the President) should be the commander of the forces and in charge of the defence in the country,” he noted.
