Sri Lanka observes 16th anniversary of tsunami

A countrywide two-minute silence was observed at 09.25 a.m. this morning (Dec 26) to commemorate the thousands of people who died following the deadliest tsunami hit, which took place in 2004, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said.

The commemoration of deadliest hit was held to mark the 16th  anniversary of the tsunami.

The destructive natural disasters had struck over 10 countries in the Indian Ocean.
