The Sri Lankan government is committed to introducing new technologies in every sector to enable the country to increase its market share in the global economy, said Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapksa. 

A report in Colombopage says the government had already established a separate Ministry of Technology- as promised by the president in its “Vision of Prosperity’ policy statement- with this objective.

The remark came while the president was addressing the 15th Governing Council meeting of the Non-aligned and Other Developing Countries for Science and Technology on Wednesday.

To compete in the global economy, he said, indigenous technology needs to be integrated with new and modern technology. “We have a proud history of eco-friendly local and traditional technology,” he added.

The pandemic gave an excellent opportunity to researchers, scientists, academicians of the country to demonstrate their potential in the field of health sectors, he said.

During the conference, it was agreed to exchange science and technology knowledge between member countries and to hold the next Bureau meeting in September 2021 in Mauritius.

 Several ambassadors and heads of government agencies in the field of science and technology have participated in the event.
