A new disease called “Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children”, first reported in the United Kingdom, has been spreading across Sri Lanka, health experts have warned, asking parents to take extra care of their children.

The new syndrome was related to the COVID-19, Dr. Nalin Kithulwatta, a Sri Lankan health expert and pediatrician, was quoted as saying by Daily Mirror newspaper. He further pointed out that children can be infected with the disease two to six weeks after being infected with the COVID-19.

Patients with the disease show symptoms of fever, abdominal pain, feeling extra tired, vomiting, diarrhea, bloodshot eyes, and skin rash.

The disease, if remains untreated, he warned, could lead to more serious complications by reducing blood pressure and thus affecting the heart. “This could be even fatal,” he said.

Several hospitals in Sri Lanka have been reported to have admitted patients with these symptoms.
