The  Sri Lankan government expressed its readiness to face a resolution against it before the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, reported Colombopage. Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said the country will “remain steadfast as a country through the conduct of the Human Rights Council.” 

Calling the recent report of the UNHRC “biased”, he said the government will respond to the allegations in the upcoming session with the help of the friendly countries.

The country is likely to face a strong resolution in the 46th annual UNHRC session starting from today.  The UNHRC report earlier called for strong measures against Sri Lanka over deteriorating human rights conditions in the country, and its alleged failure to bring justice to the victims of the three-decades-long civil war.

Last week, the Core Group on Sri Lanka, led by the UK and consisting of Canada, Germany, North Macedonia, Malawi, Montenegro, said it intended to present a resolution to the UNHRC at the upcoming session to promote reconciliation, accountability, and human rights in Sri Lanka.

For some weeks now, the government has started contacting various important countries seeking their diplomatic support to brace itself for the resolutions.
