Borders’ closure caused by the pandemic hit Bhutan’s solid waste management system in an unexpected way. The country relies on India to export its recyclable solid wastes and hasn’t been able to export it since March.

The traders who deal in trash are facing huge problems due to piling up of solid wastes in their sites causing anxiety among locals over fears of diseases and infections.

The situation again highlighted the need for local recycling plants in the country to manage solid wastes in a better way.
