The Afghan government denied reports of any breakthrough with the Taliban in the intra-Afghan negotiation that ha\ves been going on in Doha, Qatar, TOLOnews reported. 

Earlier Reuters and TOLOnews both had independently reported a breakthrough in Doha talks, saying the government had agreed to make the US-Taliban deal, UN endorsements of the Afghan peace process, commitments of negotiating teams, and will of the Afghan people as the basis of broader peace talks.

Afghan Presidential Palace, however, on Wednesday denied any such progress. “The Taliban’s demand is against the constitution,” said Sediq Sediqqi, presidential spokesperson.

He also said, the insurgent group doesn’t have “global legitimacy,” and they are facing the Government of Afghanistan.  

Stressing on the government’s commitment to peace, Sediq said peace is a priority for President Ghani, and the Taliban should join the peace process as it is supported by the international community. 

The spokesperson also reminded the Taliban that the international community slammed the Taliban violence in the country and called for an immediate ceasefire. 

“The government is working on peace, and is ready for peace as it was in the past,” he said. The Afghan negotiating team is working hard to break the deadlock in the Doah talks, he added.
