Afghan National Security Advisor Hamidullah Mohib on Saturday suggested that the next round of intra-Afghan dialogue between the Taliban and the Afghan government should be held in Afghanistan, TOLOnews reported. 

Mohib’s comment comes through a series of tweets. He said the government doesn’t have any special preference for a particular venue and would agree to any place suggested by the Taliban inside the country. 

“Peace talks within Afghanistan will create a credible exclusive security zone for all, and it will enable the Afghan people to own and oversee peace and negotiations,” said Mohib. 

Mohib said this will help negotiators better understand the plights and demands of our countrymen and will avoid additional costs in the process. 

Mohib also said that these steps would allow the process to be affected by the realities of Afghan society rather than the “external conditions” in Doha. Experience shows us that peace and peacemakers abroad, influenced by external conditions, doesn’t serve Afghan interests. 
 
Just two weeks earlier, the Afghan government and the Taliban had achieved a breakthrough in peace talks when both agreed on the rules of engagements and now both would focus on agendas of the next round of talks. Currently, the negotiation between the Taliban and the Afghan government has been going on in Doha, Qatar with the Government of Qatar playing the role of a host.
