US forces in Afghanistan conducted a fresh airstrike on Taliban positions in Nerkh district of central Wardak province killing five Taliban fighters. Colonel Sonny Legget, the spokesperson of US forces in Afghanistan, informed about the strike in a tweet.
Calling the strike in defense of Afghan security forces, he said the move is in accordance with the US-Taliban deal and doesn’t violate the deal. This is a second such strike from American forces against the Taliban in recent times as they have largely avoided combat mission since the signing of the February 29 Deal.
Earlier, US forces conducted similar targetted strikes against the Taliban in Lashkargar district when the Taliban launched a coordinated offensive to seize the strategically important city. At the time, the Talibam called the strike a blatant violation of the US-Taliban deal.
