Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been featured amongst the top three inspirational women leaders in the Commonwealth for the leadership shown by her in tackling the COVID-19 crisis in Bangladesh.

Other leaders like New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Arden and Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley were also featured in a special announcement ahead of the International Women’s Day 2021, said the Bangladesh High Commission in London Saturday.

Patricia Scotland QC, the secretary-general of the commonwealth, said, “For me whilst I am inspired all the time by so many women and girls, I would like to name three phenomenal leaders in our Commonwealth - Jacinda Arden, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Mia Amor Mottley, the Prime Minister of Barbados and Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh - for their leadership during COVID-19 in their roles in their respective countries.”

Under Hasina’s leadership, the country made substantial and remarkable progress on many fronts. Recently, the United Nations also approved the transition of Bangladesh from least developed country to developing countries.

Furthermore, among its South Asian neighbors, it is the only country which has more girls enrolled in high secondary level than boys.
