Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked the women of the country to engage in some kind of economic generating activities instead of sitting idle at home to gain real economic freedom. The advice came when she was speaking at a function to mark International Women’s Day.
“If we want to advance society, then all -irrespective of gender -have to move forward shoulder to shoulder,” Hasina was quoted as saying by The Daily Star. In the last decade, the country has made remarkable progress to bring its women into the country’s workforce.
Stressing on education and training, she said rights have to be attained and for that, women need to improve their qualities.
A program was organized by Bangladesh’s Ministry of Women and Children Affairs. UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Bangladesh Mia Seppo was also present at the function as a special guest. Women and Children Affairs Secretary Md Sayedul Islam delivered the welcome address.
This year, 'Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a Covid-19 world' was the theme for International Women's Day 2021.
