Highest number of COVID-19 deaths in a day so far

Dhaka: Fifty-three people have died from coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours in Bangladesh, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said today.

This is the highest number of deaths due to COVID-19 recorded in a day so far in the country.

The death toll now stands at 1,262 and the death rate at 1.34 percent, Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (administration) of DGHS, said during a briefing.

Three thousand eight hundred and sixty-two people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. This is also the highest number of infections recorded in a day so far.

The latest figures take the total number of infections in the country to 94,481.

A total of 17,214 samples were tested in 61 labs across the country in the last 24 hours, Dr Nasima said.

Meanwhile, the total number of 2,237 COVID-19 patients recovered in the last 24 hours. The total number of recoveries has reached 36,264, the DGHS official added.

The current recovery rate is 38.38 percent, Nasima Sultana said.

A total of 635 people were put under isolation in the last 24 hours, she added.

Among the deceased, 47 were male and six female, she said adding that 30 were from Dhaka, 14 from Chattogram, four from Rajshahi, three from Khulna, one from Barishal and another was from Mymensingh division.

Of them, one was between 11-20 years old, three were between 21-30 years old, two between 31-40, nine within 41-50, 19 within 51-60, 10 between 61-70, eight between 71-80 and another was between 81-90 years old, Dr Nasima also said.
