Pakistan will soon organize an international conference on Afghanistan as Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday dialed former Afghan president Hamid Karzai to invite him and other senior Afghan leaders to the conference.
In a late-night tweet on Wednesday, Pakistan Information Minister Fawad Chaudhary informed that Khan and Karzai had a telephonic conversation, and the former had assured the latter of Pakistan’s continued efforts to achieve peace and stability in Afghanistan.
The details of the upcoming conference, Fawad said, will be shared soon. With each passing day, as the security situation deteriorates in Afghanistan, Islamabad has intensified its engagements with senior Afghan leaders.
On Wednesday, Mansoor Ahmed Khan, the Pakistan ambassador to Afghanistan, separately met with at least eight senior Afghan leaders, including Karzai, Abdullah Abdullah, and Karim Khalili.
Importantly, a senior Afghan delegation, headed by Afghan chief peace negotiator Abdullah Abdullah, is also expected to meet the Taliban leaders in Doha for “meaningful talks”.
The High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR), the main body of the Afghan government tasked to oversee negotiation with the Taliban, is expected to finalize the agenda for upcoming Doha talks in two to three days, according to a report in TOLonews.
