Sri Lankan PM to visit Bangladesh

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will visit Bangladesh for a two-day visit on 19 March to take part in the 50th anniversary celebrations of Bangladesh independence

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will visit Bangladesh for a two-day visit on 19 March to take part in the 50th anniversary celebrations of Bangladesh independence. 

Rajapaksa is visiting Bangladesh at the invitation of the government of Bangladesh. 

Bangladesh is holding a 10-day mega celebration to commemorate the occasion. Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momin said that several state and government heads would take part in the event. 

Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih,  Nepal President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering, and Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will join the celebrations in person. 

A release from the office of the Sri Lankan Prime Minister said the prime minister would hold talks with top officials of Bangladesh during his visit. Several bilateral agreements will also be signed during the visit, Foreign Minister Momin said.
