In Indian capital, Muslim home cooks stir up a culinary revolution | Reimagining India
Over the years, Nizamuddin Basti of Delhi, a crowded, working-class neighborhood that dates back to the Mughal era and has a predominantly Muslim population, has become a pitstop for migrants from various parts of the country adding to the melting pot of culture, especially reflected in its culinary experience that also draws those looking for a gastronomic adventure. Zaika-e-Nizamuddin (ZeN) is a unique women’s collective that is carrying forward the age-old legacy of Mughlai cuisine. The collective was conceptualised and initiated under the Nizamuddin Urban Renewal Initiative of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC). Over the years ZeN has grown into an independent women’s enterprise of Muslim home cooks, providing food delivery to various parts of Delhi, enabling its members to dish out a new chapter in women's entrepreneurship and financial independence.
