Wedding halls in Kabul city are reopening for receptions even as the deadly coronavirus is still threatening lives across the country.

The reopening of these reception halls is good news for the owners as well as for the people who want to hold weddings.

The hall owners say they take health measures during the parties, but in practice, nothing is done especially in the women sections.

The women sections are usually noisy with children running and playing around, while young women dance. Some women are busy in talking usually backbiting.

Wahida, a Kabul resident who attended her cousin’s wedding this week, said: “We were nervous. When we entered the hall we tried to keep distances and use face masks and gloves.”

Mohammad Aslam is another Kabul resident whose daughter’s wedding was held at a reception hall last week. “The hall was sanitized and the automatic machines were sanitizing the guests. The tables were set with distances,” he said.

The government ordered all schools, universities, sports clubs, public bathhouses, barber shops and wedding halls after the threats of Corona virus became serious in late March.

The reopening of reception halls could signal as part of gradual returning to ordinary situation, as Kabul Governor Yaqoob Haidari, said that the halls got reopening permission on condition of observing all healthcare instructions.

“The owners of wedding halls frequently came and asked for the reopening permission. They vowed to observe healthcare instructions such as distances between guests and compulsory use of face masks by guests,” he said.

Healthcare experts, however, fear that some people do not care of the health instructions.
