The head granthi (priest) of the Karte Parwan Gurdwara in Kabul along with an Afghan Sikh, who is the caretaker of a gurdwara in Khost province, have been evacuated from Kabul and are on their way to India, via Tehran, said Puneet Singh Chandhok, president Indian World Forum. He said the evacuations of the two are being done by the Indian World Forum in coordination with the Government of India and assistance from the Sobti Foundation.

The Karte Parwan Gurdwara was in the news recently following the intrusion of armed men, resembling the Taliban, who forcibly entered and vandalised the premises on two occasions.

The two persons were evacuated earlier today on the eve of the 552nd Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev, UNI news agency said. 

According to Chandhok, "Satvir Singh, an Indian citizen who was serving as Head Granthi of the Gurdwara Karte Parwan, Kabul, for the past 21 years", and Sorjit Singh, "an Afghan citizen hailing from Khost Province and caretaker of a Gurdwara situated there", are being brought to India.

Chandhok said he has been personally supervising and assisting the stranded Afghan Sikhs and Hindus in Afghanistan and coordinating with the Government of India for their early and safe return to India.

“As on date 218 Afghan citizens belonging to Hindu and Sikh community await issuance of e-visas from Government of India,” he said.
