Authorities in Sri Lanka have arrested a senior army officer of major general rank who allegedly assaulted a wildlife worker a few days ago. The arrest came after a court issued an order for the immediate arrest of the officer.
The accused officer is believed to be involved in a heated altercation with a team of Wildlife Department officials in Habarana town of the central district of Anuradhapura, reported The Daily Mirror. The officer surrendered after the court issued an arrest warrant against him.
The incident happened in the Minneriya National Park.
Sri Lankan Army chief General Shavendra Silva has also constituted a board of inquiry, headed by two senior major generals, to look into the incident. The inquiry will run parallel to the police investigation.
