O, Hiroshima, O Nagasaki: No lessons learnt

O, Hiroshima, O Nagasaki

O, Hiroshima, O Nagasaki
August 6 and 9 marked your ghastly anniversary,
Remembered you are for the loss of lives
The ill-thought-out, deadly, naked atrocity

Histrionics, everywhere, on full display
Does anyone beyond lip sympathy, pray
For the souls lost and worlds destroyed
Is there, somewhere, a true “sorry” to say

Or, is it all for the history books
‘Cause of too many nuclear burnishing cooks,
Stored not dropped, yet, anyway
By handsomely-attired men with looks.

If we had learned a lesson, as humanity
We would have, today, lived more safely,
 Hiroshima and Nagasaki’s lesson imbibed
Don’t fool with “toys”, they’re not for play.

Alas! Man learns nothing and history is zilch
Replete with the same thing over and over, again,
For Compassion and Harmony it’s no more than a zero
For annihilation, sadly, Man gets a ten on ten.
