Why Do We Want To Be
Like Someone Else
Like Someone Else
Old and withered, fresh and green
Faces all have I seen,
Some with masks and some real,
Some gracious and, some mean.
Within the same person too
Have I seen not one but two,
One real and one unreal
One a lie, the other true.
Black must those hearts be
Their blood too, indubitably,
They, that only fool themselves,
Believing others can’t really see.
Like the mirror that reflects true,
Thoughts and feelings also do
Show through the mask that people wear,
Only for them to someday, rue.
We can’t change what we are,
We can’t fiddle with destiny’s star,
How far can we run from truth,
How far?
