Pakistan’s Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid and British High Commissioner to Islamabad Christian Turner have held discussions for the repatriation of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who has been currently staying in Landon.
During the meeting, they have also discussed the progress in the mutual extradition treaties. The issue of repatriation of Sharif also came up for discussion, reported Radio Pakistan.
“I told British High Commissioner Christian Turner to deport Nawaz Sharif, as he has been declared a proclaimed offender by the court,” Rashid was quoted as saying by the Express Tribune after his meeting with Turner.
Sharif, who was serving a seven years jail term in Pakistan, was released on bail for three weeks in 2019 to seek treatment in the UK. Despite repeated calls from the court in Pakistan, he refused to return back. However, he claims charges against him are trumped-up and political vendetta.
Earlier, the Pakistan government had also refused to renew his visa. The court in Pakistan has announced him, and his Landon brothers, as proclaimed offenders on refusal to return back to Pakistan.
