Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has reiterated his country’s stand that the Indian government restore the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
 
"India is faced with immense pressure due to its deteriorating internal situation," the foreign minister said in a statement.

This was the second time in a week that Pakistan has made this demand, with Prime Minister Imran Khan earlier ruling out resumption of any formal dialogue with India unless it restores Jammu and Kashmir's special status. 
 
Qureshi said Pakistan was now recognized by the world as a part of the solution and not a part of the problem due to its “successful foreign policy”, Tribune reported.
 
About his recent visit to Iraq, Qureshi said that he briefed his Iraqi counterpart about the Jammu and Kashmir situation and asserted that Pakistan desired peace in the region. 
 
The Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on August 5, 2019, repealed Article 370 of its constitution that granted special powers to Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan had subsequently downgraded its diplomatic relations with India and then suspended bilateral trade with it.
