Amid increasing coronavirus cases in the country, non-resident Nepalis have decided to send 100 oxygen concentrators to assist the government response to the COVID-19 pandemic, reported The Himalayan Times.

The Non-Resident Nepali Association  (NRNA) Friday held an emergency meeting and sanctioned $20,000 for the procurement of 100 oxygen concentrators. It will be sent to Nepal soon.

Dr. Sanjiv Sapkota, the health committee coordinator of the NRNA, said the delivery would help boost the government response to the crisis. The country has been reporting over 8000 cases of infections daily and most parts of the country are under lockdown currently.

The association also urged all Nepalis living abroad to lend helping hands to the country to fight the pandemic.

Hospitals in major cities are reporting a shortage of medical oxygen and ICU beds. Half of the country’s caseload is alone coming from the capital, Kathmandu Valley.

Earlier, the government has also ordered 20,000 oxygen cylinders from China and is also reportedly in touch with the Indian government for other assistance.
