Former Sri Lanka Cricket captain Mahela Jayawardene has been appointed as the new chairman of the National Sports Council appointed by Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa

Former Sri Lanka Cricket captain Mahela Jayawardene has been appointed as the new chairman of the National Sports Council appointed by Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa.

Kumar Sangakkara, another former captain of the Sri Lanka Cricket team and currently the President of the Marylebone Cricket Club in England, has also been appointed to the 14 - member National Sports Council.

The other members include, Julian Bolling, Dilantha Malagamuwa, Kasturi Chellaraja Wilson, Supun Weerasinghe, Rohan Fernando, Ruwan Keragala, Sanjeewa Wickramanayake, Major General Rajitha Ampemohotti, Lieutenant General Shaveendra Silva, Rowena Samarasinghe, Yaswanth Muttetuwegama and A.J.S.S Edirisooriya. Tennis Champion and Attorney-at-Law Thiyumi Abeysinghe has been appointed as the Secretary.
