Amid continued IEDs attacks and rising security-related incidents in the capital, the Afghan government has decided to double the number of police personnel in the city, TOLOnews reported.
Afghan first Vice-President Amrullah Saleh said on Monday the Presidential Palace will double the police strength in Kabul. A study showed Kabul lacks police strength for a city with such a large population, he added.
Saleh also informed mountain outposts of the capital will also be handed over to the Afghan National Army.
In the last 10 days alone, 23 people have been killed and 70 others wounded in different security-related incidents in Kabul. The city saw a rise in IEDs attacks and targeted killings related incidents in the past two months.
Last Saturday, four blasts were reported in Kabul within three hours. Two police officers were killed and seven others wounded in the incidents on the day.
Earlier this week, President Ghani directed all concerned ministries and authorities to pay attention to the city’s security. Two months earlier, First Vice-President Amrullah Saleh took charge of Kabul’s security.
