At least two members of the Afghan security forces were killed and three were wounded in a Taliban attack on a military base in Andar district of Ghazni province in Afghanistan, TOLOnews reported.

In a statement, the Afghan Ministry of Defense said the attack was started on the night of Wednesday and continued till morning. The attackers first tried to approach the base by a car bomb which was neutralized by the forces. After that several attackers started firing.

“The Taliban attack was repelled and they suffered casualties as well,” the ministry said in a statement.

The Taliban has not claimed the responsibility for the attack so far but the Afghan security official blamed the group for the attack.

Andar district in Ghazni province has been under the control of the Taliban since 2018 and the reach of the Afghan security forces is just limited around the base there. Interestingly, the Afghan special forces had killed al-Qaeda’s senior leader Mohsin Al Misri in Andar district on 24 October this year.

This is the second such big attack in the Ghazni province within a week time. On Sunday, a suicide blast in Ghazni city had killed around 31 people and injured 24 people.
