The United States embassy in Kabul on Saturday issued an alert to all its citizens currently residing in Afghanistan, suggesting they may consider “departing from the country” following the rocket attack on the city, Arian news reported. 

“US citizens currently visiting or residing in Afghanistan may wish to consider departing,” the statement reads. 

The statement further reads, “strongly urges US citizens who decide to remain in Afghanistan to review your personal security plans, take appropriate steps to enhance your personal safety, remain aware of your surroundings, monitor local media for updates, and maintain a high level of vigilance.”

On Friday morning, around 23 rockets were fired on multiple places in the capital city of Kabul which killed around eight people and wounded 32.  

The extent and magnitude of the attacks shocked many residents of Kabul who now think that there is no place in the capital that can be considered safe. Among the targets was the office of Afghanistan’s first Vice president Amrullah Saleh, one of the fiercest critics of the Taliban. 

Bilal Sarwary, a senior Afghan journalist, tweeted, “Security and intelligence failures that haunt the Afghan Nation on a constant basis.”
