Authorities in Pakistan on Sunday announced that the Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib Corridor on its side has been reopened, citing reduced cases of coronavirus infections over the last week.
Gurudwara Darbar Sahib at Kartarpur, the second holiest site for Sikhism, remained closed for over a month period after cases on both sides of the border surged.
On 9th November 2019, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated the Kartarpur Corridor just days before the 550th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak. The crossing allows Sikh pilgrims from India to visit the Kartarpur shrine without a visa.
The authorities have notified the reopening of the 4.7-km-long passage that connects with Dera Baba Nanak Sahib in India's Punjab. Strict SOPs will be in place for pilgrims, reported Daily Pakistan.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Rangers Director General inspected the Kartarpur site and reviewed the security arrangements, and consulted the administration.
