Nepal’s main opposition party, Nepali Congress, staged a nationwide protest against PM Oli's decision to dissolve the lower house of parliament, The Himalayan Times reported. Ten of thousands of protesters took out rallies in all 165 constituencies in the country.

Efforts are being made to make Nepal another Afghanistan, alleged Ramchandra Paudel, a senior leader of Nepali Congress. Accusing Prime Minister Oli of autocratic modus operandi, he said the prime minister has plunged the country into a “deep crisis.”

Paudel further said, "communists are good at creating problems." Oli just needs just “yes men” in his team, he added. The Supreme Court would reverse the government’s decision to dissolve parliament.

Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress’s President Sher Bahadur Deuba refrained from commenting on Supreme Court. He said, “We will not threaten or intimidate the court to get a favorable judgment. That’s not  the way our party functions.” We will comply with any decision of the country, he added.

Currently, there are at least 12 petitions in the Supreme Court challenging the government decision to dissolve the house.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari dissolved the lower house of parliament on 20 December upon the recommendation of the Cabinet. The decision came after the months-long feud between the factions led by Prime Minister Oli and his rival Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda.
