Desiderata II
The aching heart needs some love
The aching heart needs some love
As darkness needs the stars above,
We all need something to keep us going
The stalling bus, a gentle shove.
Try lakes and rivers if you like bream
The end of day needs strawberries and cream,
Champagne wouldn’t hurt you much
Not, when sleep needs a lovely dream.
Dawn needs the beauty of the phantom light
Else, imagine the plight of a waking night,
The sleepy- eyed night wouldn’t wake up
What then would happen to the Day’s sight.
Imagine, a night eluded by day
Or, fooled into thinking that very way,
It might look for stars at noon, you know
And, with them hide and seek play.
‘Cause we all need another to hold our hand
Care for us and also understand,
While we must do the same for them
Only then, will lives be truly grand.
Time needs us, as we need Time
If nothing’s ridiculous then what’s sublime,
Think Desiderata, the need of all
If there was no justice, what, tell me, would be crime?
Inter- dependence is the need of the hour
But for the thorn, unguarded the flower,
A Rose like that would be plucked away
To adorn the coat’s lapel of a man of power.
Everything comes down to hunger and thirst
If there was no second, who would be first,
If the Ego was ensconced where it should always be
There’d be no need, ever, for it to burst.
The heart and the soul need and require
The principles of morality they both desire,
It’s these that see us through life, well
And, these are what Gods admire.
Desiderata, only highlights these
These are like our learning fees,
All through life and till the very end
Desiderata, the human bondage frees.
