I Often Wonder

If Birds were Man’s Mentor
Would we a better breed be

If Birds were Man’s Mentor
Would we a better breed be
With no apparent purpose
Than to, aimlessly,
Move from tree to tree
In the lovely shades of greenery
Or, flapping wings
Soar into the skies,
Look down on Earth
And, its doubtful worth
Then, at the Heavens above
And beyond,
The Stars, the Moon
And all the rest
Wondering, if I might
To Gravity succumb
Then, grow numb
And, fall.

Not look for purpose
All day long
And, spend the Nights
Counting Right and Wrong
Praying, for all that we are worth
Gilded temples, heavenly spires
Or, forehead to the dust join,
All no more than
The toss of a coin
That, which we call Destiny
And, try to change it
With all our might
In the realms of darkness
Or, the Sun’s light,
Man’s sorry, sad, pathetic plight.

The chirps I hear
I dread and fear
Are Birds that look at me, mockingly,
As I seek to live
Beyond my life
In search of mirages
Like Eternity Or,
No more than the hankering within
That drowns the Silence midst
My own - created Horrid Din.
I often wonder?
